Here's my experience with X-Plane 10 rendering options and the frame rates achieved for each set. The following equipment and settings were used in each case.
- I7 quad core 950 @ 3.7GHz with 12MB RAM, Radeon 5850 with 1GB VRAM, catalyst version 11.11, video resolution 1920x1080, and 64-bit Windows 7
- weather is clear for each cloud layer
- weather visibility 20 sm
- frames per second were approximately the same for day and night conditions, so the values shown apply to both cases
- refer to each screen shot for details on the rendering options
- note that with HDR on, the anti-alias level was also set to 2x, otherwise X-Plane would not load the rendering options (it would freeze and have to be killed via Task Manager)

- anisotropic filter level, 8x
- HDR rendering, off
